Safe diving is taken seriously at Lankayan:
A "typical" dive would be: a short boat ride (2 to 10 minutes) to the chosen spot which are all equipped with a buoy to give the divers a reference during descend and to protect marine life. Follow the buoy-line to the ground and spend 15 to 20 minutes @ 25 to 28 meters, then ascend to 15 to 20 meters and spend 15 to 20 minutes at that depth before you ascend to 10 to 15 meters for another 15 to 20 minutes. The dive guides always picked the "deep" dive spots for the first dive, so that each repetitive dive on a day would be shallower than the dive before. Also you are reminded during every briefing not to forget your safety stop at the end of each dive. Anyway: the dive spots around the island are not too deep (around 30 m max.) - so if you want to dive "deep" this is not the place for you...

Be a SAFE diver!

Before each dive there is a briefing with a sketch of the dive spot and some hints from the guide what "special things" might be seen and where to look for them. If you don't want to follow the guide it's O.K. also, just let the guide know that you are "buddy-diving" and do whatever you like. At the briefing you are told the expected dive time (usually around 45 to 55 minutes) or the left pressure in your tank (50 bar) when you should begin your ascend. After surfacing you are picked up by the boat which we found pretty convenient...

But not only getting picked up by the boat is convenient - the crew of the dive centers take most of the work from you: they assemble your gear (tank, regulator and BCD) for you. You just take your weights, fins and mask, get into your BCD and walk a few steps to the boat and have a seat.  You then wait until the boat has reached the dive spot and is tied to the buoy. After the guide has checked the current you'll hear: "Double check your gear" and "Dive any time you're ready". Now all you have to do is a back roll and dive...
After the dive you hand over your weights, camera and fins to the boat crew before you climb on-board. Back at the dive center the crew there takes care of your equipment: the regulator and BCD are taken from the now (almost) empty tank, salt-water is drained from the BCD and the equipment is rinsed in fresh water. Then your regulator and BCD are installed on a new tank and you're ready to go for another dive within 5 minutes after returning from a dive! Well, we almost forgot how to assemble our gear ourselves!
Fred is "the hardest working man in show-business". He fills your tanks, takes care of the compressors and hardly ever sits still in one place for more than a few seconds... Fred, Thank you for everything!
